本書は以下のような構成になっています。

(1)　各政治学者によるそれぞれの研究領域の紹介 ( 政治理論 ・ 政治過程論 など )
(2)　政治学の概念についての解説 ( 民主主義 ・ 無党派層 など )
(3)　主要国の政治制度の紹介 ( アメリカ ・ ドイツ ・ 韓国 など )
(4)　基礎用語解説
(5)　入門文献案内
(6)　特集 丸山真男と日本の政治 ・ 日本の戦後政治史
(7)　大学案内

政治学に興味がある学生・高校生・社会人などの入門書として
いい本ではないかと思います。

(1)については、紹介されている学者がやや偏っており
必ずしも政治学の領域を全面的にフォローしたものではないです。
学部選択を迷っている高校生向けに書かれたパートだと思われますが
参考になるかどうかは微妙です。

(7)は大学名などを羅列してある表だけなので、大学選択の参考には
ならないでしょう。

本書のよい部分は、(2)~(6)だと思われます。
比較的わかりやすい文章で書かれており、政治学に興味がある方や
政治学を学ぶ学部1年生などの役に立つと思います。

96年刊でやや古くなっている部分があり、新版も出ていますが
新版とは紹介されていることが若干異なっているので、両方持っていても問題ないと思います。

政治に対する関心が薄い人は政治、しかもそれに「学」がつくとさらに堅苦しくとっつきにくいものになります。そこでそういう人が読んだらいいのではないかと私が思うのがこの本です。「我がギリシャでは政治に関心のない市民は役立たず」と古代ギリシャの政治家が言ったそうです。政治家の文句ばかり言ってないでよりよい社会をつくるためには私たち国民一人一人が政治の本質を知るべきだと思います。そのための第一歩にこの本を読むことをおすすめいたします。
