主人公のエイジのごく普通の中学生活が
誰にでも経験したことあるような内容で凄く共感が持てた。
エイジだけでなく、彼のクラスメイト、母親に父親、姉に学校の先生。
どのクラスにも居そうなクラスメイトに、どの親も言いそうな台詞
ごく当たり前で普通なことが物語りになっていて
逆に共感を抱けるんだと思う。

そのごく普通の生活に訪れる通り魔事件。
一時期、日本では通り魔事件が多発して居た事があり
それも未成年の事件が多かった。
読んでる間、その時代背景が脳裏によぎり
当時のマスコミの騒ぎようや、自分の親が言っていた台詞が重なっていった。

とても読みやすく、共感しやすく、現代的なストーリーだと思います。

「クラスメートが連続通り魔事件の犯人だったら・・」
と、犯人となる少年を心情を、犯人のクラスメートの視点で描いていく。

「通り魔事件の犯人が、クラスメートだった」なんて非現実的な話だけど、
その中に、恋愛や受験、部活、友達関係、親に対する反発なんか、
中学生なら誰でも経験していることが絶妙に絡ませていあるから
現実的な話となっていて面白いんだと思う。

思春期の中学生の頃の、一言では言い表せらられない、
　混沌としていて、不安定で、反抗的で
　何も考えていないようで、実は悩んでいたりして
　冷めているようで、実は熱かったりもする
微妙な時期の心情をみごとに描いている。

この本、誰が読んでも面白いと思う。
・これから中学生になる人、
・今、中学生の人、
・昔、中学生だった人。
みんな、何かしら関係があって、感じるものがあると思う。

現代の家族や少年の世界を描く書き手として、重松清は秀でた作家である。たとえばこの『エイジ』では、重松の視線は主人公である中学２年生・エイジの内側にあり、そこから世界を眺め、自分と世界のつながり方に呻吟している姿を等身大に描こうとしている。それは、90年代末の東京の中学生が使っていたしゃべり言葉を、そのまま作品中につかうという会話の描き方に象徴されている。マスコミは‘キレる14歳’といったくくり方で、少年犯罪を報じた。それを重松は主人公のエイジやツカちゃんを通して、キレる＝凶暴ではなく、他者との関係を「切る」ということを彼らの成長痛への幅のあるまなざしをとおして、そんな単純なものではない、と語っている。理解ある大人に囲まれた子どものつらさ、ということを考!えたことがあるが、まさにエイジたちが語っているのは、そういった大人のあり方にどう反発したらいいのか、どう自己表現をしたらいいのか、その道筋を探す時期の戸惑いなのだろう。この本を読めば中学生のことが分かる、なんて乱暴なことは言わない。でも大人が忘れてしまった、中学生の頃の気持ちや視線を改めて思い出し、考え直すきっかけにはなる１冊である。
