　というのは、最後の「『正義』について」を、すべての人に読んでもらいたい。高橋源一郎がここで書いていることは、コミュニケーションについてである。それは会話という意味ではなく、人同士がどうすれば本当にわかりあえるか、ということに関した「コミュニケーション」である。それには、「考えること」が必要だ、と言っている。
　考えるということは、実は難しいし、たいへんにめんどうくさい。たとえば、戦争についての映画があるとする。監督は、戦争の悲惨さを伝えようと、人が悲惨に死んでいく場面をたくさんいれる。見る人は、それを見てかわいそうだ、と思う、そして戦争は悲惨だ、やっちゃいけない、と思い、「戦争について考えさせられるいい映画だ」とコメントする。でも、ここで果たして誰かひとりでも何か考えただろうか？　監督：戦争の悲惨さを訴えよう→悲惨なシーンを撮ろう。　見た人：ああ、人が死んだ→かわいそう→戦争はよくない。
　ほら、誰も何も考えてない。誰かに刷りこまれた脊髄反射的な反応があるだけで、そこには思考がいっさい抜け落ちている。高橋源一郎はそれはいけない、という。考える方法、というのは、誰も教えてくれない、という。　
　考えることで重要なのは、結論を先に持たないこと。先の例なら、戦争はよくない、という結論を捨てること。
　パスカルさんだってデカルトだって言ってる。たぶん、私たちは考え続けなくてはいけない。考え続ける限り、何が正義で何が悪かだなんて、ひとつも決定することはできない。

これを文学評論と呼んで、果たしていいものだろうか。古典から近代文学まではもちろん、はたまたマンガやファッションにいたるまで、横断的に評しているところに、著者の好奇心の幅広さがうかがえる。また、読み進むうちに、意外なものが非常に文学的であったりして、実に驚かされる。いわゆる「目からウロコ」本だ。文学そのものの存在を疑ってみたくなる一冊。タイトルの「文学じゃないかもしれない…」とはよく言ったものだと思う。
