今から25年近く前に書かれた内容とは思えない新鮮かつ普遍的な目線が、ふんだんに盛り込まれた好著。著者が現役を引退して、野球評論家として活躍していた時期に、時には冷徹･時には温情の目で、各チーム･選手･監督の実情を、非常にわかりやすくユーモラスに書いている。「自分の成績･タイトルにこだわる『利益型』から、チームの勝利に貢献することを第一と考える『貢献型』への脱皮」は、最近の著書でよく目にする内容だが、既に25年前から言い続けていたことに驚かされた。プロ野球にとどまらず、広く組織を率いるリーダーとして、いかにあるべきかを明確に示しており、できるだけ多くの人に読まれてほしい本である。野球の奥深さや組織づくりの難しさ、そして何よりも野村監督の"すごさ"に圧倒させられるはずである。

本書は２５年ほど前若しくはそれ以前の野球界を中心に描かれている。
４０になった私でも記憶にないシーンや人物名は知っていてもリアルタイムでない選手がたくさん居る。
しかしぼやきのノムさんの著書はやはり辛辣ではあるのだがそこはかとない愛に溢れている。

自己啓発本として野球監督経験者の著書を読まれる方が多いが、数冊野村氏の本を読んでいる私にとって氏の本は自己啓発や組織の纏め方といった要素より「人として大切なこと」「人生の中でのその瞬間」といったことを考えさせられる本です。
決して処世術を教えている本ではありません。

野村克也という人物を苦手に思う野球ファンはたくさんいらっしゃいます。
そういった方にこそ手にとって戴きたい一冊です。

　今だプロスポーツとして人気ＮＯ.1のプロ野球。本書は、84年刊行の『組織戦の時代　プロ野球　野村克也の目』と、85年刊行の『プロ野球　監督たちの戦い』を改題・再編集し上下巻にしたものである。
　本書は、野村克也氏によるプロ野球83・84年シーズンを中心とした時評集である。野村氏の目により、往年の名選手・名監督が分析的回想され、執筆当時の広岡西武や藤田巨人と選手たち、また球界を沸かせた選手、きらりと輝いた選手たちが俎上に挙がる。
　本書の刊行は、25年の時を経て文庫本として発売に至る評論としての「強さ」と、現在の野村氏への興味と期待の現れであろう。
　09年の現在、様々な「野村本」が出版されているが、プロ野球評論家としての野村氏の初期の姿を知る資料となる二巻である。
