　講演集である。
　同じ著者の『ヨーロッパを読む』を読むと再読したい気持ちになる。本書はそういう人に最適だ。世間とか差別とかに話の的が絞られ、何故中世ヨーロッパでは医師や理髪師が賤民だったかの理由が、大宇宙との関係で語られている。
　本書を先に読めば『ヨーロッパを読む』が深まるし、後で読めば要点を押さえた再読効果が得られる。

この本は阿部謹也先生が書かれた最新の世間論ではなく、昔出されたハードカバーの文庫版である。とても小さくすぐに読める。しかし、内容を把握して読もうと思えば人によって違いはあると思う。阿部先生の本は、日本人として生きてきた僕にとても大きな安堵感を与えてくれた。それは日本人というものを西欧の人と比較して、今現在日本人のいる立場を分析してくれているからだ。なぜ？という疑問を、とてもわかりやすく説明してくれている。日本人論を読むなら是非お勧めの著者であり、この本もまたその中の一冊である。
