静岡県生まれ。1958年、名古屋大学医学部卒業。73年、名古屋市で眼科医院開業。81年、愛知視覚障害者援護促進協議会設立。84年、文部省「色覚異常生徒のための教科書態様改善に関する調査研究委員会」委員。89年、日本学校保健会学校環境衛生指導委員会委員。94年、厚生省健康政策局「色覚問題に関する検討会」委員。91年、日本医師会最高優功賞受賞。92年、日本女医会吉岡弥生賞受賞。94年、朝日社会福祉賞受賞(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

この本を読んで「色盲」という概念や存在自体について相当に偏った知識
しか持っていなかったことを思い知らされた。また「色盲」と「診断」された
人たちが受けてきた（あるいは、現在も受けている）有形・無形の差別や
偏見、社会の誤解については正直背筋が寒くなるものを感じた。
「血液型性格判断」なるエセ科学が一部で幅を利かせていて、正直苦々しく
思っているのだが、「色盲」に対する誤解・偏見はそれに匹敵するのでは
ないかと思う。
２１世紀にもなってこのような認識がまかり通っている事には驚愕する
しかない。

ただ唯一残念なのは、著者がある種の義憤のようなもの（？）にかられて
いるためか、文章がかなり感情的でヒステリックなものになってしまって
いる部分がある点である。該当部分を冷静に淡々と記述すればより説得力
が出たのではないかと思われ、その点だけは残念である。

以上の事を考慮し、評価は★４つとした。

だが、是非とも多くの人に読んでもらいたい。一読に値する価値のある本
であることは間違いないと思う。

非常にマジメで、真摯な態度で1つ一つの問題を行動的に解決していく姿勢は大変に素晴らしい。色弱の人の未来を切り開く名著。必読。
