　著者が今も生きていたなら５５歳。(2004年現在）まだ若い。この放浪記は1974年に書かれたものだ。著者、まだ２５歳という若さであった。日本中を駆け巡った大ニュース「小野田少尉ルバング島で発見」。第一発見者が著者であったわけだ。その後1987年、雪男捜索中遭難。還らぬ人となった。38歳という若さだった。

　あとがきに「月面に第一歩を印したアポロが無事、地球に帰還したニュースを聞いたが、ヨーロッパの風景にはじめて接して感激したほどの喜びはわかなかった」「アポロ計画が偉大なる人類の事業であろうが、僕にとっては苦しい旅を乗り越えて、目的地に着いた僕自身の行為のほうがより素晴らしく思えてならなかった。」という。

　今でいえば、アテネの日本人選手のメダルラッシュは素晴らしい成果であったが、僕自身の行為のほうが素晴らしく思えたという事であろう。
　つまらない仕事をして夜はテレビを観るだけ、。一生、テレビを観ただけの人生ってありうるかもしれません。

　ちょっと古い本ですが、青春のかけがえのない自分の人生を生きようとする情熱は普遍的テーマと思います。この本からそんな、情熱を感じ、気持ちが若返りました。楽しい本です。楽に読めます。中年の自己に疲れているお父さん。お勧めです。
