シリーズ３冊目。
私は奥州には行ったことが有りません。
しかし、行ったような気分になってしまいました。
しかも、１ケ月ほどユックリと滞在をしたような夢のような旅です。
著者に感謝します。

氏の「街道をゆく」シリーズの特徴として、氏が、心底、好きな地域か、関心で行った地域かで、内容までもが大きく変わる点があるかと思います。この１冊は、陸奥、薩肥、そして河内という、氏の居住地であったり、数多くの小説で書いたり、愛情を持っている地域だけに、前者に分類されるでしょうか。そして、その結果は、推して知るべく、非常に面白いものになっています。
その地域の、有名無名を問わず、著者の博識によって、語られる事物や人物の面白さはもちろん、同行した人々に注ぐ暖かい眼差しといったシリーズの特徴を備えているのですが、とりわけ、まだ、シリーズ開始早々のせいか、画家の須田氏の記述が多いのも、須田ファンには嬉しいところでしょうか。
シリーズの中でも、面白さでは、上位に位置する本だと思います。

シリーズ3作目。北は陸奥,南は肥薩と司馬史観が躍動します。それぞれの歴史を判りやすく,それでいて対照も鮮やかに描かれている。そして
それだけでとどまらないのが司馬先生の凄さで,それぞれがもつ偏執的かつ本質的な習性を見抜いている目には感嘆するのみ。
一転,自身が住む町でもある大阪編では,ユーモアで装飾されていてとても楽しく読めます。また,楽しいといえば旅に同行し挿絵を担当して
いらっしゃる須田画伯が楽しい楽しい。氏のちょっと変わった冒険的好奇心は楽しいのだ。尚且つそれを内面では冷静かつ皮肉っぽく観察
しているのに,表面ではしっかり尊重して上げている司馬先生とのやり取りがほのぼのとして好きだなぁ。。あったかいものが込み上げてくる。
