本書は、『光の帝国』『夜のピクニック』など

多ジャンルに渡る作品を発表し続ける著者による

待望の短編集。


本書には、著者の小説７編が収録され、

各話の巻頭に仏文学者・杉本秀太郎さんの短歌と

町田久美さん、合田ノブヨさんらの絵が添えられます。


収録されているのは


風呂敷の模様から話が展開するエッセイ調の作品『唐草模様』


あるＹ字路でおきた不可思議な事件の顛末『Ｙ字路の事件』


類まれなる才能と大いなる運命を背負った少女を描く『窯変・田久保順子』


―など、それぞれ小説のタイプは異なるものの

いずれも、今までの著者の作品と比べても

いっそう「あわい」雰囲気を持った作品ばかり。


個人的に印象深かったのは

川にグレメが上がる夜


それを見に行く少年たちを様子を描いた『夜を遡る』


小説そのものも大好きなのですが

添えられた樋口佳絵さんの作品や短歌も、

まるで本作のために書かれたようにピッタリで

いつまでも楽しんでいたくなりました。


個々の作品のインパクトは強くはないものの

小説、短歌、そして絵画を全体として味わうと

まるで、一陣の風が吹き抜けたような

心地よい余韻が残る本書。


著者の作品を読み続けている方はもちろん

短編小説が好きな方には強くおススメの著作です☆

イラストや短歌とのコラボレーションは興味深いが、読了後、どうにもすっきりしない曖昧さが残ります。あえて、このような書き方をしているのかと思いますが・・。私はあまり面白いとは思いませんでした。読者によって、好き嫌いが別れる作品かと思います。
