漠然としたイメージのみで、田舎暮らしを始めてしまうと、後々苦労する可能性があることが、具体的事例によってハッキリと見えるようになる。逆に、どのようなリスクがあるか、ハッキリと書いてあるので、事前に対処方法も考える事が出来て、非常に参考になった。一般的に中々表に表れない情報なので、これからの人生に「田舎暮らし」という選択肢がある方は、読んで損はないと思う。

タテマエの世間とは一線も二線も画した著者の孤高暮らしの随筆路線に共感する読者には、ほぼ納得の辛らつな１冊である。今回は安易な田舎暮らしイメージに対して、経験者として様々な批判的視点で警鐘を鳴らす。過激なタイトルだがローカル希望者は事前に読んで自然の厳しさと人間関係が参考になるであろう。
狭い社会の陰湿ぶりや選挙など日本社会の原点を指摘する部分は新聞には書かれない世界で改めて参考になる。田園のイメージとは異なる農作業の騒音・薬剤散布も落とし穴か。強盗相手に槍で応戦を勧める段はこのご時世では都市生活者の方が一面マジで心得る必要はあるかも。
読者が６０歳定年間近の都市のサラリーマンを想定しているようで、酒と長期間の弛緩した生活を否定するキツイ舌鋒を「あなたは・・・」とダイレクトに向けられるのでちょっと戸惑う。

私も田舎暮らしに興味はある。でも、格別の期待を抱いているわけではない。

日曜夜にテレビでやってる「人生の楽園」だっけ、あんな感じのあまりに無邪気でクサい田舎暮らし礼賛には居心地の悪さを覚えるし、
所詮は「姥捨て村」のくせに妙に安っぽい明るさを振りまいている鹿島灘沿岸あたりの不動産チラシなんかを読むと失笑を禁じえなかったりする。

本書は見事なまでに、ミもフタもなく田舎暮らしを否定している。

正直、最初は読んでいて不快だった。
それは「田舎暮らしの夢を破られたから」ではなくて、
悪口や難癖、ケチばかりで建設的な意見を言わない人間に対する嫌悪感のようなものだったと思う。
（そして、筆者のその舌鋒は、本書のほぼ結末まで続く）。

しかし、読み進めるにつれ、これはこれでいいのだと思えるようになった。

田舎暮らしを本気で考えている人は、本書を読んでめげてしまうくらいでは到底「もたない」のだから。

本書で描かれている様々な事例、「SPA」あたりが記事にしそうな感じだ。
「定年後の甘い夢も無惨――田舎暮らし、ヒサンな現実」とかってね。
