まず、サブタイトルの「有頂天時代」と表紙のイラストに大笑いしました。
別に三谷さんがチヤホヤされて有頂天になったわけではなく、「有頂天時代」を撮影、公開していた時期に書かれたコラムなので、こういうタイトルになっているわけですが、表紙のイラストを見ると、「三谷さん！あんた、有頂天になっているね！」と突っ込みを入れたくなる！
（多分）この本を編集した人の意図通りの反応です。
朝日新聞の夕刊に連載したコラムをまとめたもで、2005年4月から2006年4月までの掲載分がまとまっています。
他の巻同様、適度な読み応え、ニヤニヤする内容は相変わらずですが、
大きなトラブルがないので、三谷さんが比較的淡々と、仕事に追われて暮らしている日々が描かれています。
（そうそう、お馴染みの高校の同窓会の描写がないので、2005年は同窓会、行くことができなかったんでしょうかね）
巻末は舞台のパンフレット用に書いた色々な俳優さんに寄せた文章が掲載されていますが、思い切って、これはテイストが違うので、スペースが空いたところ用に載っけられた文章という印象になってしまいました･･･なくてもよかったかも。

読まない手はない。三谷幸喜作品をこよなく愛する人は、何と言っても必読、と思える本。
三谷幸喜さんの文章が嫌いでない限り、作品をまず観て、そして、その作品について書かれている「三谷幸喜のありふれた生活」（１〜５巻）を読み、そしてまた作品を観る。そうすれば、楽しさが倍増します。読めば絶対観たくなる。
まずは、「THE有頂天ホテル」を観てから、これの「５」を買って読みましょう！そして、再度「THE有頂天ホテル」を観る。これで、決まりです。

演劇に限らず、芸術系の人の若い頃は辛い。実体験だけでなく、多くの証言や事件からもそれは感じられる。つまり結果が目に見えないということだ。観客動員や受賞歴があったとしてもたった一つの劇評、書評、あるいは帰りがけの客の「つまらない」で自尊心は揺らぐ。大きめの自我も揺れる。自分、どこへ行くのか。わからなくなる。

爆笑問題の太田さんから見ると同じ大学の三谷さんは英雄だった。ジャンルが違うのに、正気をひとつ踏み外すほどの思いの強さだ。それに対して三谷さんは、そうではないことを明かし、また淡々とした日常に帰っていく。

この本の大部分はそうした変わり映えのしない日常だ。だがここに至るまで、毎日の実作を獲得するまでの彼の苦闘を思うと、「よく頑張った」とも感じるし「これからの人たちよ、心と創作の釣り合うところへ行ってくれ」とも思う。

期せずして、三谷さんの意向とは違って、作家というものについて、強い印象を受けた一冊。
