辞書の世界では2002年はウィズダム英和辞典の出版年として記憶されると考えていたが、LEXISが最後になって登場した。最近元気がなかった旺文社が社運をかけて作った辞書であるように感じるほどの力作である。
(1) まず「ネイティブスピーカー100人に聞きました」という「プラネットボード」が面白い。コーパスの分析力とネイティブスピーカーの語感をうまく調和させることに成功した。（例：suggest that~の動詞はどの形を使うか）
(2) レベルの高いcommunication expressionsがよい。これは文形式に準ずる定型表現である。（例：In my humble opinion: もったいをつけた表現で実際には自分の意見をハッキリ言う場合が多い）
(3) 訳語、例文などがよい。
その他、ことわざを示す、コロケーション情報を示す、など英和中辞典としてよいと思われる全ての情報を載せているといっても過言ではない。
英和辞書は、しばらくの間、ジーニアスの一人勝ちの状態が続いていたが、ウィズダム、レキシスが登場したおかげで英語学習者としては選択肢が増えた。嬉しいかぎりである。

5.0 out of 5 stars 英和辞典としては最も「使える」発信型の辞書, 2002/12/15
2002年末は各社の英和辞典が一気に出揃う時期となりましたが、このレクシス英和辞典は、他書と比べて一歩抜き出ています。

文字通りの意味の裏にある話者の真の意図を伝える語用情報、他の辞書を圧倒する会話表現の情報、母語話者の実際の用法を知ることができるPLANET BOARD、コーパスに基づいたコロケーション情報、多くの言い換え表現、中辞典としてはかなり細かい項目まで載っているコンピュータ関連語などが、その特徴として挙げられます。

英語を理解するためだけでなく、発信のためにも英和辞典としては現時点で最も「使える」辞書だと思います。大学入試対策から英語にかかわる仕事をする人にまで幅広く薦められます。

学習用の英和は長らく『ジーニアス』が最も優れていると言われてきましたし、実際に優れているので愛用されてきました。特に形容詞のS、Dの表記にはお世話になりました。さて、この『レクシス』も非常に優れた学習英和です。語法、構文の解説が秀逸です。「プラネットボード」なるコラムは画期的だと思います。『ジーニアス』、『レクシス』のどっちが優れているかと言われると、どちらにも優れた味わいがあり、捨て難い魅力があります。ともあれ、学習英和の選択肢が新たに加わったことを喜びたいと思います。
