科学に対するアプローチ，物事の考え方，生き方，すべてにわたって驚くことばかりだ．このようなセンスを持った人間は人生が楽しくて仕方がないのだろう． 学生をはじめ研究開発を志すものはもちろん，すべてのひとびとに読んでいただきたい．

前半は、早逝した一人目の奥さまとのエピソード。入院生活の長い奥さまが退屈しのぎに考え出すいたずらに、迷惑しつつも決してそれを悟らせず、逆に一緒に楽しんでしまおうとするあたりに、暖かいけど決して押しつけがましくないファインマンさんのお人柄が見てとれる。科学に造詣の深くない私にとって、科学からは若干離れたこの章は、本当に心に残る。

中盤は、前作に収めきれなかったユニークなエピソードがいくつか。そして後半は、スペースシャトル「チャレンジャー号」が1986年に空中で爆発した後、大統領事故調査委員会のメンバーとして、レーガン大統領のもと原因究明した顛末が描かれている。本音で生きてきたファインマンさんにとって、政治の都ワシントンでの腹蔵ある駆け引きは、苦労の多いものだったことだろう。最後の最後になって署名削除も辞さじとした科学者としての矜持と科学に対する情熱。ファインマンさんは、最後までファインマンさんだった。全体的に、前作「ご冗談でしょう、ファインマンさん」よりも、ファインマン像が鮮明に心に残るエッセイだった。

ノーベル賞物理学者リチャード・Ｐ・ファインマンの痛快で情熱あふれるエピソードが満載である。 「ご冗談でしょうファインマンさん」I、IIに続くものであるが、この本では、ファインマンの科学者としての哲学・倫理観がよく現れている。特に、スペースシャトル　チャレンジャー爆発事故の原因究明の話と最後に付け加えられた「科学の価値とは何か」という講演録である。原子爆弾開発に携わった彼が考え求め続けてきた点である。科学・技術に携わっている方、または目指している方に、是非読んで欲しい。
