著者について

莫　言（ばくげん）
1955年、中国山東省生まれ．人民解放軍入隊後、執筆活動を開始．1987年に発表した本作品『紅高粱家族』は内外の文壇で高く評価された．現代中国文学の到達点を象徴する作家である．邦訳された作品に『酒国』『豊乳肥臀』『白檀の刑』などがある．

フォークナーやマルケスの影響とか、チャイニーズ・マジックリアリズムと呼ばれる技法とかについて考えるのが馬鹿馬鹿しくなるほど、登場人物一人一人の生きる力が紙面からほとばしるようで、凄まじい。農民たちの生き死にのドラマや、喜怒哀楽の激しさ。何でもない農村風景が、人々の激情によって、何か宗教的な祝祭空間のようにさえ見えてくる。
今、世界全体を見渡しても、これほど力強く人間を描ける作家がどれだけ残っているだろうか。おそらく莫言に対するフォークナーとマルケスの影響は、技巧的なものより、土に生きる人間の力への信頼ではないだろうか。グロや暴力的な描写も確かに目につくが、それでいて人間がなぜか魅力的に輝いて見えるのは、フォークナーの20年代末から30年代にかけての作品と共通している。
フォークナーは、残酷で、ペシミスティックな作品を多く書きながら、「それでも人間は耐えるだけではなく勝利する」とノーベル賞受賞演説で断言したが、莫言は確かにフォークナーの血筋を引いている。

グロいです、この話。
身体の描写がいろいろなところに出てきています。

抗日の話が出てくるせいかもしれませんが。
強制労働（？）のことがでてきたり。
本当にこんなゲリラ戦をやっていたのかなあ。
中国人の視点から見た日中の歴史が解る感じです。

ただし、この作品の焦点を「赤い高粱」に移してみると、
大自然が目の前に浮かびます。

主人公の家では高粱酒を造っています。
お酒造りの話はちょっと興味深いところです。
