英語を本格的に勉強しようとしている人は是非読むといいでしょう。
ワタシの場合、小谷野敦氏が薦めていたので読んでみました。

この本を読了すれば英語力が格段に上がるというわけではありませ
ん。ただ、英語なんて地道な努力がなければものにできません。

本書は、英語にのぞむ心構え、多読のための教材の紹介、実際の古
典の翻訳例などとともに、著者の経験に基づいた間違えやすいポイ
ント、とりわけ日本人のそれ、なども紹介してあり、その内容は豊
富でかつ高度です。
また、これまでの英語教材の歴史も踏まえている点で、従来の教材
の弱点をカヴァーしているともいえるでしょう。

長らく同時代ライブラリーで絶版になっていた「英快」が現代文庫で帰ってきた。英文読解力養成用だが、英語学習全般に対する指南書でもある。「訳読式の授業だから英語が身に付かなかったのだ」、「ネイティブ・スピーカーに習わないとダメなんだ」と八つ当たりする前に、英語に対する自分の「本気」の方をまず疑ってみるべきだと知る。英語学習の究極の方法など誰も知らないのだし、その最終ゴールもないのだけれど、本書第２章の中の「大人のための学習法」は、お金があまりかからないという点で、最良だし、その方法での取り組みを止めてしまわない限り、ひとまずどこかのゴールにはたどり着けそうだ。最後まで全部読めたら、一生のパートナーになります。

まじめに勉強したくなる作品です。文法にも
読解に対しても使える参考文献を挙げてくれてあって
助かります。
それでいて堅苦しくなく、もう一度受験生の気分に戻って
まじめに取り組んでみようと思いました。
例文も、改めて全体を読みたくなるような作品を掲載して
くれてあるので、読解や多読にバリエーションが広がると
思います。
やはりまじめに取り組むことこそが、英語上達への近道かも
知れません。
