私は建築家ではない、が、書名に興味を持ちこの本を購入した。
この本は、彼が建築した８つの建物の制作日誌と呼んだほうがよいかもしれない。
最初の３つくらいまでは文中の数々の言葉に関心を持ったが、
ある時点から、自分に言い聞かすようにいかにお施主を納得さすか、
金銭がドウトカコウトカ、ということが登場してきた。
本が終わりに近づくにつれ、文体に濃厚なメッセージはなくなり、
流して書かれているような気がした。
食いつきは良かったが、段々味が抜けてくる、
チューインガム見たいな本だった。

建築素材としてのコンクリートの否定から入っているので、一瞬、安藤忠雄を思い浮かべてしまった。コンクリートがあったからこそ近代建築が成立したが、しかしそのことが建築と環境との齟齬を生み出し、建築は単なる表象としての存在に堕していく。表象であるがゆえにコンクリートの中に偽装をはらみ、また表面にデコラティブなものを貼り付けて、あたかもコンクリートではないような貌をして僕らの前にその姿を現す。
「２０世紀には存在と表象とが分裂し、表象をめぐるテクノロジーが肥大した結果、存在（生産）は極端に軽視された。どうあるか、どう作られているかではなく、どう見えるかのみが注目された」。
なるほど…。
「その大地を、その場所を材料として、その場所に適した方法に基づいて建築は生産されなければならない」。
そして隈氏の挑戦は、一方で建築関係法規群をにらみつつ、他方ではすでに失われつつある伝統的な施工と材料の発見、それを現在のテクノロジーと融合させつつ、今という時間へいかに甦らせるか、という苦闘へと引き継がれることになる。
俯瞰からディテールへ、ではなく、ディテールから全体へ。建築に限らず、様々な分野での構築のプロセスは変えていかなければならない時点に来ている気がした。
建築からの反グローバリズム宣言という読み方もできるが、あまりステレオタイプではなく素直に読んでいった方が良いと思った。

著者の「負ける建築」という哲学をよく表した内容だったと思います。
自然についての考察も、ありきたりでなく、よく考えられていて、それが自然に負ける事への確信に繋がっていることが伝わってきます。
全体から受けるイメージは「徹底的に負ける」という人だなぁ。ということ。
だから自然最優先だとか、天然素材にこだわりました。という事も無く、妥協しまくってます。という苦しみなのか、主義なのかが滲んでいます。
ズバッとお悩み解決的な気持ちよさ、悪く言えば子供っぽさが無く、読後もやもやとさせられる気もしますが、それがこれからの大人の意見なのかもしれません。
