本書は今、現実に靖国、及び国の体質が孕んでいる問題を端的に
示してくれている。

そしてその問題は単に「左の論理」や「右の論理」というもので
判断し、切り捨てられるものではなくて、あの戦争で奪われた多
くの尊い命を今の私たちがどう総括し、これからの世に生かすの
かという非常に重要なテーマを含んでいる。

”お国のための死”とは何だったのか、と本書では随所で問うて
いる。戦後、政府は靖国と共同して合祀活動を進めてきた。
そしてそれは”強制的”と言わざるを得なく、遺族側の意思が汲
まれることはなかった。合祀は当たり前の論理を一貫してきた政
府や靖国を多くの市民による訴訟を紹介しつつ批判している。
まさに戦後の歩み方を問うているのだ。

　これだけの内容を分かりやすく新書にまとめるには相当なベースがないと困難だろう。そしてなによりまとめる筋となる高いレベルの思想が感じられる。
　この本は、靖国問題を通して、戦前との比較における戦後史を語っているとも言える。人の死を国家が弔うというのはどのような意味と影響を持つのか深く考えなければならない。そうすると、国家とは何か、宗教と政治の関係はどうあるべきなのかが問われてくる。
　人類は長い歴史を経て国民主権の概念を生み出し、国民国家にまでたどり着いた。また、政教分離の知恵も編み出すに至った。この本はそれらについて直接答えるものではないが、この本を読み、考えることにより、明治以来日本の国家が目的を持って利用してきた靖国神社、自国民及び他国民に極めて重大な不幸をもたらした本質の一翼を担った靖国神社という事実に気づかされる。
　そうすれば、現時点でもそれを言い出す人々の意図、またそれが実現したときの結果がどのようなものなのか大よその判断は出来るだろう。そして、どうすべきか基本的な答えが出てくるだろう。

ならない事柄を扱っている本である。

そしてその問題は単に「左翼」や「右翼」というもので
考えるべきではない。
そういう思想とは別に、戦争で命を失った人たちの事を
考え、自分達がこれから、戦争を起きない　平和な世界に
しなくてはならないのかも考えなくてはならない。

お国のための死とは何か？と問うている本書に答えてやらう
ただの犬死にである。
犬死というより、国家に死を強要されただけの事。
体裁のいい殺人である。
殺人に意味などない。
故に、お国のための死という質問自体が意味をなさない。
