5.0 out of 5 stars 絶好の遠野観光ガイドとして利用したい本です, 2005/11/26
　「遠野物語」本文は６５頁に過ぎないが，文語体であるため，読みやすいとはいいがたい。が，１話１話が独立した短い話なので，サムトの婆の話（８話），郭公と時鳥の姉妹の話（５３話），オシラサマの起源の話（６９話）など有名なところを摘み読みしてみれば，遠野物語の豊穣な世界の一端を堪能することができよう。
　基本的に実話（として語られている話）なので，遠野及びその周辺の具体的な地名が出てくる。８２〜８３頁に略図があるが，できればもう少し詳しい地図を用意して，どの場所での話かを追っていくと，なお理解が深まると思う。そうやって地図で確認しながら読んで，実際に遠野市に行ってみると，物語世界に直接触れることができたような気持ちになった。

面白かった。初めてこういう古い文章を読んでみたけど、案外解りやすかった（大体は）。「遠野」は詩的で小さいお話みたいなんがいっぱい入ってて面白かった。「山」の方はちょっと堅かった。好きだったけど。それを読んでる自分が頭良いと思ってしまったけど。外人だからであろうか？

　皆さんは、遠野の自然が、どんなに美しいか、知っておられるだろうか？−−私が、初めて遠野を訪れたのは、１９７６年（昭和５１年）の夏の事であった。夕方、誰も居ない五百羅漢を訪れ、それから、宿に向かふ野道を歩いた時、「日本にこんな場所が在るのか。」と思った事が、今も忘れられない。以来、私は、何度も遠野を訪れ、遠野の自然の美しさに、魅せられ続けて来た。
　遠野は美しい。特に、秋から冬にかけての遠野周辺の自然の素晴らしさは、言葉で表す事の出来無い物である。誰も居ない晩秋の山道で、風がごうごうと鳴り、その音の中で、落ち葉が踊り、頭上を雲が流れて行く光景を見ると、宮沢賢治が描いた岩手の風景が、創作ではなく、リアリズムであった事に気が付く。そして、そこで数多くの精霊に出会ったと言ふこの本（『遠野物語』）の伝説が、現実の事の様に実感されるのである。
　『遠野物語』を読んだ人は、是非、遠野を訪れて欲しい。−−秋から冬をお薦めする。−−そして、是非、遠野周辺の人気（ひとけ）の無い山を歩いて欲しい。そうしたら、山の木々が風に鳴る音の凄さと、その風に空を流れる雲の美しさに、言葉を忘れる筈である。そして、その誰も居ない山道で、『遠野物語』の伝説が、そこで起きた現実の出来事としか感じられなく成る筈である。
