ニヤリとさせられる語釈がいっぱいです。
私のお気に入りは「平和」。

　一年：３６５回の失望から成る一定の期間

　回想する　：　さまざまなことを付け加えながら　以前には知らなかったことを思い起こす


　いくつか書き出すだけで笑ってしまう。

　芥川龍之介の「侏儒の言葉」に影響を与えたことで日本でも有名になった。「侏儒の言葉」には　芥川の機知だけではなく　彼晩年の「暗さ」がこびりついている。一方　本家の本作は皮肉だらけながらも　笑い飛ばす「明るさ」がある。それが軽妙洒脱さにつながっている点が本作の徳であると僕は思う。

　実際「皮肉」から見えてくる真実は常に在るわけだし　そんな「皮肉」な視点を持つことの重要性は常に在る。皮肉屋という言葉には　余りPOSITIVEなイメージはないかもしれないが　皮肉や風刺の精神を忘れた集団が　恐ろしい事に突っ込むという例も幾つか歴史にはある。

　そんな教訓も本書から読み取れる。それも徳の一つだ。

19世紀末のアメリカで風刺と機知に富む社会批評で一躍有名になったビアスの代表作　箴言警句集 人生をより楽しく生きるための参考書　辞書形式に読みやすくまとめてあります。

乞う-同じ熱心さでも頼んでみてもくれっこはない、という確信に比例する熱心さをもって、何かをくれと頼む。

軍隊-祖国を防衛すると称して、敵に侵略する気持ちをおこさせそうなものをことごとく食い尽くしてしまう非生産者の一集団。 など
