ろくでなしの父親から逃げたハックと、逃亡奴隷のジムの筏での川下りは
ジムがペテン師の自称「王様」に売られたところで終る。
ここからトム・ソーヤも登場してジムを救おうとするのだが
悪ガキの荒唐無稽な空想の連続となり、今一つついていけなくなってしまう。
この結末はおそらく好き嫌いが分かれるだろう。
ただ、ペテン師が町の人を騙す様子や、その末路などは面白かった。

ハックの冒険も、ジムの自由州への逃亡がテーマになってきます。
この時代奴隷を逃がすことは犯罪でした。

ハックが逃亡奴隷をつれて川を下っていくという状況に、ハックが悩むと同時に、著者のマーク・トウェインもこの状況をどう解決するかに悩んだそうです。
筆のもたついた感のある後半にやはり悩みが出ている気がします。

奴隷制度を是とするか否とするかどちらかの態度を決めない限り解決ができない状況の中、著者がどんな解決をしたのかは是非読んでみてください。

人によるでしょうが、私は…ありだと思います。
