ディケンズの世界は私の理想です。
意地の悪い人も、優しい人も、頼りになる人も、悪党も登場し、皆が作り
ものでなく、頑張って生きています。ディヴィッド・コッパーフィールド
がそんな人達からなる世界で成長していくのを、一緒に泣いたり、笑ったり、
喜んだりしながら、長々と物語を体験していくのはとても贅沢な気がします。

この本の表紙を見た途端、なぜか目についてしまい、後日買ってしまった。とにかく面白すぎる！ユニークな登場人物たちに思わず引き込まれてしまいました。文体は簡潔ですが、ストーリーの構成は抜群で、「こんなに読書って楽しいのか！」と、感動したものです。ただ、好き嫌いがはっきり現れる本みたいで、買ってみようかなと思っている人は、とりあえず１巻（全５巻）だけ試しに買ってみては・・

　この作品の魅力は、なんといっても物語の中に沢山登場する人物達が生き生きと描かれていること。
　発表当時の挿絵も文庫に収められているが、これらの絵が読者の想像の枠からあまりはみ出さないのも、ディケンズの人物描写の素晴らしさだろう。
　この文庫版は石塚 裕子さんが新たに翻訳された最新のもので、図書館などの蔵書ではまだ読めないかもしれない。
　ディケンズの分身である主人公の一人称が「僕」で訳されているところも親しみやすいし、テンポの良い流れのある文章で、すいすいと読めてしまう。
　これを読むと、文章が書きたくなるかもしれない。
