本当に面白い！
痛快で力強いファンタジーです。

１巻では肇輯と第二輯を収録。
肇輯では、里見家の興りと、かの有名な八房と伏姫のエピソード。
第二輯では、伏姫の死。
そして八犬士のうちの二人、孝の玉を持つ犬塚信乃戍孝と義の玉を持つ犬川荘助義任が登場。

犬塚信乃は、親が健康を願って女の子の姿で育てる。

が、母は死に、父親は伯母夫婦の策略によって自害に追い込まれる。
伯母夫婦は信乃の持つ名剣村雨を我が物としようと、彼を引き取ろうとする。
そんな中、信乃は荘助と知り合い･･･。
と、いいところで次巻に続く。

現代の小説を読み慣れた目からすれば、分かり易過ぎるくらいの勧善懲悪ストーリーだし、見ようによっては陳腐な展開かもしれません。

しかし陳腐に見える!のは、これが原典であるからなのです。
一度、本物に触れてください。

この岩波文庫版は訳文も注釈もないので、ちょっと取り付きづらいかもしれません。
ですが、当時の一般庶民が読んだ娯楽小説なので、今の私たちからしてもそれほど難しい単語は少ないです。

見慣れない言い回しにしても、すべてにルビが振ってあるので問題ありません。
（なお「三国志」や「史記」などを読んでいると、より楽しめるかも）

読者をぐいぐいと引っ張っていくテンポの良い文章は、是非声に出して読んでもらいたいですね。

原書だが、飛びように読めた。リズム感のある文章、江戸時代の枠を超えたファンタジー、善悪のはっきりした筋立て。八犬伝で目立つのは正義の八犬士だけではない。船虫などの悪女も魅力的だ。大団円に向けて疾風の如く駆け抜ける物語に堪能してください。

　人形劇、アニメ、漫画、その他諸々でご存じのとおりの、犬とお姫様と八つの珠と八人の若者、毒婦と妖怪と善と悪と……えーっとえーっと、その先は自分で読んで考えてください（笑）。
　八犬伝を名乗る作品数々あれど、馬琴翁の原作に如くは無し――といったところでしょうか（苦しい……）。アレンジ派の人は「これが本物か！」と驚愕し、原作派の人は読むたびに新たな発見をして「やっぱり馬琴はすごい！」と思うはず。
　残念ながら現在は品切れ中。再版されたら即買いです。候（そうろう）口調がうつっても当方では一切関知いたしません（笑）。
