ナルニア国ものがたり。１冊１冊読んでも楽しめます。が、やはり、これは７冊通して、ナルニアという国の大きな流れに、自ら巻き込まれながら最後まで読むというのがお薦めです。いったん世界に入ってしまったが最後、一気に読みたくなること請け合い。最後まで読んだ時の感動は大人でも子供でも大きなものだと思います。

私が初めて読んだのは小学生の時で、それ以来、愛読書のうちのひとつです。キリスト教的観念に関する是非論や、大人になって読むとそういう点が説教じみていて..というコメントをよく読みますが（実際は自分が子供の時に読んでしまったので想像ではありますが）それは、「大人的」知識から入る読み方であって、先入観なく読めばそういった瑣末なことは気にならず楽しむことも出来ると思いますし、要は「物語」が好きでさえあれば、年代や考え方次第で、その人なりの楽しみ方が出来る本だということです。

瀬田先生の訳は、現在の世の中にマッチしているかと言われると決してそうではありませんが、それがこの作品の素晴らしさを減じていることは決してなく、ある意味ひとつの「世界」を作り上げていて、それもまた魅力のひとつ。ただ、小学生くらいのお子さんに読ませてあげる場合は、時々質問が来るかもしれませんが(笑)。

また、原著もさほど難しい文体ではないので（独特の表現もありますが）興味のある方は一読をお薦め致します。ペーパーバックスで読みやすく、手にとりやすいお値段のボックスセットもありますよ。

　初めてナルニア国物語を読んだのは小学校３年生の時でした。ストーリー展開、不思議でどこか懐かしい世界観、魅力的な挿絵、語り口のやさしさ（翻訳が本当にきれいなんですね）、あっという間に虜になったのを今でも覚えています。

　その後、大学でたまたま教材に使われて、このシリーズが、キリスト教の思想が根底にあると知って、ちょっと驚きました。（あ、別にキリスト教がどうというのではなくて、宗教は人間の本質的な部分を捕らえることができると思うので、それが、このシリーズに立体感を与えているのかなと。）

　今、28歳になりますが、何度読み返したかわからないし、読み返すたびに気付くことがあります。

　だから、このシリーズに出会うのは早ければ早いほどいい。

わたしはこのシリーズを小学校五年生のときに友達にすすめられて読みました。ナルニアはイヴの娘など日本の子供には少しわかりにくい表現もけっこうありましたが、そのような言葉を放っておかず、親に聞いたりしたのも良い経験となっています。そして、ナルニアの一番の魅力といえばシリーズを通して主人公が少しずつ違っていながらもどこかでなにかが必ずつながっていることです。普段はめんどくさくて飛ばし読みしてしまう方も、このシリーズではそんなことをせず物語どうしの関連性を楽しんでください。
