やかまし村は赤い屋根の家が３軒並んだだけの村。子供たちは、「中屋敷」に住むリサ、兄のラッセ、ボッセ、隣の「南屋敷」に住むオッレ、リサの隣の「北屋敷」に住むブリッタとアンナ姉妹の、いつも一緒に遊ぶ仲良し６人組だけ。

ごくありふれた日常の中で、楽しみや喜びを見つける子供たちが本当に生き生きと描かれています。自分たちで新しい遊びを思いついたり、素敵な秘密を共有したり。男の子と女の子に分かれて、それぞれを出し抜き合ったりするところなど、「そうそう、子供の頃こういうことをしていた！」と頷いてしまう場面がたくさんありました。仲間がいるだけでいくらでも遊びを考え出せたあの頃を懐かしく思い出し、読んでいるうちに私もいつしか、やかまし村の子供たちと一緒に遊んでいるような気分にさえなりました。作者のリンドグレーンは、子供たちを楽しくユーモラスに描ける、素敵な作家だと思います。

高学年になった子どもに、自分で読む習慣を身につけさせたくて司書さんのお薦めを購入してみました。
短編集なので、子供も喜んで読みました。
函入りの書籍で、書棚に並べても美観が美しいですよ。
