宇宙大のやさしさを持った、少女ピッピが周囲の人に行動で
それも勇気の行動で伝えていく様子が　この物語の最大限の
魅力です。
それも並外れたピッピの行動はワクワクの玉子が
爆発したような、スッキリした心地よさがあるんです。
作者のリンドグレーンと翻訳の大塚勇三の最強コンビ
で日本人に伝えられている作品だと私は思えます。

　この物語は短い話が積み重なり出来上がったものだそうで、世界一強い女の子を主人公にした、珍しい物語は、誰もが納得するような爽快なものです。一見常識外れで、むちゃに見える行動も、ピッピがすると許せてしまうはずです。読めばきっとわかるでしょう。

　それはピッピが常識という枠にとらわれない自分というものをしっかりと持っているからではないでしょうか。だから自分が意味のあると思えない学校には行かないし、警官にも逆らうし、泥棒にはお金すらあげてしまいます。海で大人に囲まれて育ったピッピにとっては、普通の人が考える常識は通用しません。両親も世話をしてくれる人もいない、今彼女が生きている世界で信じられるのは自分だけだからです。

　また子どもが一度はしてみたいと思っても、なかなか実行できないような事をピッピは簡単に実行してしまいます。子どもは自分が出来ない事をピッピがやってくれるので、それだけで爽快な気分になれるはずです。何かに悩んでいる時でも、悩みに対する勇気をわかせるような力をピッピは持っていると思います。ピッピは「生きる力」そのものです。

　しかし物語の中盤でピッピが人の生死を語る場面が登場します。死に対してピッピは「陽気に」しゃべり、最終的にはそれを冗談であったかのように簡単に嘘だと述べています。私はこの場面だけはその意味を考えてしまいます。人の生死を児童文学において簡単に、冗談めかして扱っていいのでしょうか。ピッピだからといって許される問題ではないはずです。

１９４５年、スエーデンの作家によって書かれた、自由奔放な行動と豊かな空想に
生きる超能力少女ピッピの物語。
ピッピの口から出てくる意想外の言葉は上質なコントを見ているような感じがする。
本書で子供達に空想のトレーニングをして固定観念の打破を学んでもらおう。空想
は創造力源だから。

超能力ではなく、一休さんのように頓知頓才だけで勝負するほうがよいと思ったぶ
ん☆を一つ減らした。
