5.0 out of 5 stars 流麗な石井桃子さんの翻訳, 2007/8/28
30年ほど前小学生だった時におばからプレゼントされ読みましたが、童話とは思えない大人のおとぎ話でした。
それもそのはずファージョンは、戦地に赴いていた、愛する男性宛でこの話を書いたとの事。
6話の恋にまつわる不思議なファンタジーがマーティンという吟遊詩人によって語られるという形式をとっています。どの話もすばらしく不思議で独創的で魅力的です。石井桃子さんの翻訳も流麗というほかなく、本国では忘れられた作家の様ですが、日本で未だにこうして版を重ねているのは翻訳のすばらしさもあるのではないでしょうか。挿絵も魅力的ですね。
少女にも大人の女性にもお勧めします。

~小学生の頃、ファージョン作品集が大好きで、大学生の頃、原書を探しましたがなかなか手にいれられなかった昔。嫁に行かぬと誓った若い娘たちの心を解きほぐす、旅の歌い手マーティン・ピピンの歌と物語、石井桃子さんの訳もすてきですが、ファージョンの原文に直接触れられるのは無上の喜びです。この続編「Martin Pippin in the Daisy~~ Field」の原書が見つからないのが、少し残念。その中の１編、「エルシー・ピドック、夢で縄跳びをする」だけは、独立して出版されているようですけれど・・・　これも大好きなお話です。~

ごめんなさい、読んでると めっちゃ眠くなるんです。


しかし最後まで読破できました。


作者の暖かい心は伝わってきます。


訳者のちょっと古めかしい訳も なんだか素敵かも…
