ブックカバーで隠すのが惜しいかわゆさは、ノーマン・ロックウェル作という豪華さ！　少年文庫あなどるべからず。なにせ訳者が石井桃子氏だし、ほかを買ってる場合じゃないでしょ。

悪童トムのそこかしこにセンチでかわいい姿が垣間見えるのが魅力。かなりナルシストで、空想しながら涙ぐんだりしながらも、かつ、そのことを楽しんでたり（泣くのって気分いいって感じで）、ほんとにトホホなおこちゃま。

そんな海賊ごっこに夢中なコドモが、大変な殺人事件！に巻き込まれるんですから・・・。大冒険談にならないわけがない。
コドモが読むには難しすぎるほどの起伏のある文章で、オトナになったからこそすみずみまで味わえる小説。

たいへん有名な本ですが、その知名度にそぐわず面白い本です。
大人社会に反抗する登場人物たちですが、現代の社会におけるような凶悪な
ことをするわけでもなく、むしろ大人への思いなどはとても共感が持てます。
恋や冒険を通し少年が成長していく―といえばありきたりに聞こえますが、
少年達の底にある純朴さが新鮮に感じます。
