メアリー・ポピンズシリーズの第３巻です。１巻は『風にのってきたメアリー・ポピンズ』、２巻は『帰ってきたメアリー・ポピンズ』、４巻は『公園のメアリー・ポピンズ』です。でもこの巻で物語は終わりです。４巻は追補編なので。

１巻２巻と同様、不思議で魅力的物語がいっぱいです。３冊目ですが少しも色あせていません。メアリー・ポピンズの世界は尽きることがないようです。７章“末ながく幸福に”は私のお気に入りで、大晦日の習慣ができてしまったくらいです。メアリー・ポピンズの毒舌も相変わらずで楽しいです。（大好きなメアリー・ポピンズにまとわりついてくる双子達に向かって、「このハイエナが！」だなんて・・）

とても読みやすい本ですが、（子供にはもちろん、）大人にもお勧めです。午後のお茶を飲みながら、ふと読んでみたくなる本です。

独特の古びた言い回しが、なんともいえない懐かしさを感じさせてくれます。
当時の生活習慣もよく書かれていて、自分が子供時代に戻れるよう。メアリー・ポピンズの心情がまったくわからず、ずっと不思議な人物のままなのですが、自分で色々想像しろってことなのかも？
と〜ってもほんわりできます。
