過去の３作と比べて、ストーリーがスリリングな印象を受けました。
ペペンジー兄弟は出て来ないので、どんな感じになるかと
不安でしたが、全巻と同じく楽しく読みきる事が出来ました。

今回は「目的を見失って楽な方、楽しそうな方への誘惑に
負けてはいけない」的な教訓がそこかしこに・・・。
ところどころで遭遇するピンチはドキドキものですよ。

今回ももちろん、登場キャラクターが成長して行く過程が
分かるので、読んでいて楽しくなって来る本でした。

「いじめられっ子」の少年少女が、行方不明のリリアン王子を探し出す役目をナルニアのアスランから与えられます。沼人＜にがえもん＞の助けを得て、三人で荒野や巨人の国、地下の国を行きます。

探し当てた王子は母親の仇である魔女＜地下の女王＞に捕らえられていました。これまで失敗をくり返していた子供達ですが、はじめてアスランの指示に従い、一見狂って見える王子を解放します。しかし魔女の惑わしは妖しげで狡猾で、何が真実なのかわからなくなってしまいます。「地上に国などなく、全ては夢と幻想で、目の前の物だけが現実です」と。

最初は真っ黒の甲冑の中、今は地下の暗闇に捕らえられ、魔法にかけられた王子を救う手立てはないかに見えますが、にがえもんはどこまでも勇気と健全な常識を失いません。その精神が全員を励まし、魔法を打破り、リリアン王子は仇討ちを果たします。

地上に戻った全員をナルニアの住民は歓呼で迎えますが、リリアン王子を待っていたのは父王カスピアンの死でした。労苦は報われたものの「もう帰りたい・・・」と子供達はつぶやきます。

しかしアスランと会った場所でカスピアンは若く元気な姿で復活します。そして、カスピアンはかねての願いであった人間の世界を垣間見、子供達と不正をただす機会があたえられます。子供達はナルニアでの冒険、カスピアンの死と復活を通して大きく成長するのでした。

ナルニア国物語の中で「銀のいす」が一番好きです。にがえもんは指輪物語の節士馳夫（アラゴルン）に匹敵する人物だと思います。

C.S.ルイスの作品の登場人物はとても魅力的。
「泥足にがえもん」は最も印象的なキャラクターの一人？だろう。
子どもたちの成長の跡をたどるのもおもしろい。指輪物語やハリポタの陰に隠れてしまったような感じもするが、
一度は読んでおきたいファンタジーの原点とも言うべき作品。
