ケストナーの楽しい小説。三人よれば文殊の知恵。子供達だって協力しあうとすごいことができるんです。小学校の図書室でこの本に出会って本が好きから大好きになりました。小学生に児童版をお勧め。エミールと三人のふたご達もつい続けて読んだけど、探偵達の方がやっぱり、好きです。大人の方には「飛ぶ教室」をおすすめします。

若き詩人であったケストナーが、子供たちのために書いたお話。都会への旅がたちまち冒険に変わるスリル、子供たちの力だけで事件に立ち向かう爽快さ、お父さんのいない主人公エーミールの毅然とした態度、エーミールとお母さんの美しい愛情……。すべてが愛される物語の条件を備えています。とくに事件解決の場面は、興奮間違いなし！ 序文の「お話はぜんぜんはじまらない」は、物語の方法論としても秀逸。

大都会ベルリンを舞台にしたエーミール・ティッシュバイン（テーブルの脚）の冒険物語。

誰も頼ることのできない都会の中で、強い好奇心と正義感を持ったグスタフに出会い、
彼の仲間たちの共に、子どものネットワークを駆使して悪い泥棒を包囲し、
最後は彼ららしい奇想天外な方法でドロボウを追いつめてしまいます。

爽快さと瑞々しさと純粋さにあふれた小説です。

へんてこな主人公の名前や、変わった口癖を持つ個性的な子どもたち。
「話はぜんぜんはじまらない」「ここに取り出だしたるは十枚の絵」
というユニークな序文。

それらには、一ひねりせずにはいられなかったケストナーの性格が現れており、
それがこの本の大きな魅力でもあるのです。
