みなさんご存知の「おやゆび姫」「裸の王様」「みにくいあひるの子」「眠りの精」などの話が収められた第一集です。
正直、「おやゆび姫」などは有名であっても実際に話を詳しく知っていたわけではないし、恥ずかしながら「モミの木」
などは話すら知りませんでした。けれども、アンデルセンの温かい物語の素晴らしさに触れられ、とてもよかったです。

また、翻訳も適切で、古すぎず、新しすぎず、アンデルセンの童話にあった優しい口調になっています。
時おり「小クラウスと大クラウス」など、ちょっと一休さんチックなとんちの利いたよくよく考えると残酷かも、というような
話もありますが、アンデルセンの想像力の豊かさを感じられてよかったです。

「みにくいあひるの子」や「眠りの精」などは、世界名作劇場の「牧場の少女カトリ」で取り上げられたのを見て以来、
本当に大好きな作品でしたが、改めて好きになりました。また、筆者の略歴を見てかなり苦労していたのを知り、
アンデルセンの偉大さに恐れ入りました。大人の人でも宮沢賢治の寓話を簡単にしたような要素も強く十分楽しめると思います。

また、どうぞ、お子様にも読ませてあげてください。童話離れな世の中だからより一層温かい話に触れて欲しいです。
漢字もそれほど多くなく、振り仮名も大人が読んでいてうっとうしくない程度にちゃんと振ってあって子どもでも楽しめると思います。
続編も読んでみようと思います。

とにかくおもしろいです。「白鳥になった１２人の王子」は、ちょっと不思議な話です。「はいのうと兵隊」は、とても美しい話です。「人魚姫」は悲しい悲しい悲しい話です。でも、心がきれいになっていきそうで好きです。小学校２年生のときに買ってもらって何十回、何百回と読みました。
