5.0 out of 5 stars サトクリフ晩年の心温まる絵本！, 2001/7/16
この本はブリテン（ケルト）対ローマの戦いなどを描いた歴史物で傑作を残したサトクリフですが、この本は彼女の暖かな内面が、ストレートに溢れた絵本です。イラストも落ち着いたトーンで柔らかく描かれていてストーリーにぴったりです。 偶然に拾った龍の子供と心を寄せ合う竪琴弾きの青年。その大切な友をある日盗まれてしまいます。青年は必死で龍の子供を訪ね歩きますが…。 　ちなみにこの龍は大きな犬くらいの大きさにしかならないということですが、どこか古写本にある龍のような雰囲気で大変かわいらしかったです。、動物を愛する方には胸を打たれる一冊！

ローズマリ・サトクリフということで、期待はしていました。そして読んだ結果、その期待を裏切らないものでした。
まず目をひいたのは、素朴なあたたかみのある色合いの絵です。初めて見る絵でしたが。
音楽師の表情がとてもいいですね。竜の子を見つめるまなざしが・・・とてもあたたかくて、その愛情がつたわってきました。

とくにいいなあ、と思った絵は、見開きいっぱいに使った絵です。湖か川かそれはわかりませんが、水辺に長々とくつろいで寝そべっている音楽師が、仰向けになり、目をとじて気持ちよさそうに寝ている竜のお腹をそっと撫でている、といった絵です。
かたわらに、音楽師愛用の、木製の竪琴が無造作においてあります。竜の子のすぐ横には、首輪と紐が・・・
音楽師と竜とのあいだに流れる信頼関係、愛情の深さ・・・そういったものをこの一枚の絵はよくあらわしている、と思いました。

文章もそんな絵にぴったり、という感じです。さすがサトクリフ？　お話は、竜の子が卵から孵ったときから世話をして、育ててきた音楽師だったのに、とある町で悪い心を抱いた商人に竜の子を盗まれてしまって・・・という話です。
それから音楽師の、愛する竜の子を探す旅がはじまるのです。

最後、どのようにして音楽師がふたたび竜の子を見つけ、もう一度自分の手に抱くことができたのか・・・？
それはこの絵本を実際に手にとって、ごらんになってください。
しずかな感動が訪れることと思います。

また見開きいっぱいに使った一枚の絵・・・竜の子を連れ、意気揚々と歩いていく音楽師のすがたが描かれています。
緑がとても鮮やかです。幸せな、音楽師の歌が流れてきそうな・・・そんな平和な光景です。
