ふたりの作家がここまでのめり込んで共作できるとはまさに奇跡的な収穫と言えるのではないでしょうか？　訳文も秀逸。いろんな書評が出ましたが、誤訳うんぬんという指摘はナンセンス。原文も読んでみましたが、翻訳は原文を忠実にうつしています。恐らく・・・、監獄に長い間収監されていた人が主人公であるというところからすると、主人公の「記憶違い」というのも、ボルヘスとビオイ＝カサーレスが設定したシチュエーションなのでしょう。主人公のそういった実に人間的な設定も読みこなす、ということも著者が読者に求めている要素に思えてなりません。

ラテンアメリカ文学ファンにとって、ボルヘスとカサレスの共著というのは、美食家にとっては、中華の鉄人とフレンチの達人が共同で作った逸品料理を食するようなものである。なんだかよくわかりませんが、文学に対して真摯であるのと同じ程度に遊び心も備えている二人ですから、面白いですよ。

しかし、多少誤訳もありそうなので、ボルヘスやカサレスを初めて読んでみようと思っている読者は、既刊の単著のほうがよいかも。

事件の関係者が入れ替わり立ち代わり出入りして饒舌をかましまくり，最後には探偵役の囚人が冷め切った表情で事件とその背景を解明する。
ボルヘスというと難解なイメージがありますが，これは探偵小説として純粋に楽しめる。
