「理論電磁気学（紀伊国屋書店）」などで有名な、故・砂川重信先生が書かれた岩波書店「物理の考え方」シリーズの第二巻。多くの大学における電磁気学の授業で、テキストとして採用されている本です。それだけに解説の仕方には、定評があります。各章末にはその章の要点がまとめられており、これがイイです。各章に５問程度ずつ問題も載っているので、しっかり演習もできます。
ただ電磁気学はベクトル解析の使用が不可欠なので、これが解ってないと電磁気学を理解するのはまず無理です。この本もその例外ではなく、ベクトル解析が多用されています。それなので、ベクトル解析の理解がいまひとつな方は、先にベクトル解析を消化して下さい（特にガウスの定理とストークスの定理）。

A Kid's Review
　私は企業に勤める商品開発に関係する５５歳になる技術者の落ちこぼれです。図書館に毎週通いながら科学技術書を読んでいたときに出会ったのが砂川先生の”電磁気学の考え方”そして”相対性理論の考え方”でした。電磁気学と相対性理論の歴史やその本質をここまでやさしく、わかりやすく解説してある書物は他に類をみません。師の明晰な頭脳とやさしいお人柄が偲ばれ、めったにない人生の師にめぐり合えた思いで感激しています。さっそく、自分の生涯の座右の書物にしようと、今回シリーズものすべて購入しました。
　これからさらに”量子力学の考え方”、”力学の考え方”等を読むのが楽しみです。そして、後半の人生に新たな活力を与えていただきました。まだまだ若者には負けませんぞ！
　目から鱗とはこのことでしょうか。ぜひお勧めしたい書物です。

本書は当たり前ですが電磁気の考え方を述べているのであり電磁気を完璧にやろうという人向きでないことは確かです。本書のような本は教科書を勉強したがどうしても考え方が分からないという人のためのものであるので教科書を読めば十分と言う人にはあまりお勧めしません。勉強の合間に読むにはまあ悪くはありませんが。
