他書に比較しFeynman物理学が圧倒的に優れている点は，物理学の直感的描像を明らかに描き出そうとしている点です．本質をよく解かっていない学者が書いた本は，数式や専門用語で誤魔化そうとするものだと思います．飛びっきりの切れ者そして柔らかい精神のFeynmanだからこそ，こうした直感描像のあぶり出しを見事に成し遂げたのだと思います．素晴らしい著書だと思います．けれど御注意!! 大学初年級程度の英語力をお持ちの方なら，邦訳版を読むことはあまりお薦めできません．日本語訳が死んでいます．Feynmanの活き活きとした語り口はLectures on Physicsでしか味わえません．本当にFeynmanが学生達に物理の心を伝えようという生きた情熱が伝わってきます．「原書を読むなんて・・・」って思われるかもしれませんが，Feynmanは全く難しい英語を使っていません．（おそらく受験英語よりずっと簡単）　文章にリズムがありますので，予想以上にドキドキしながら速く読めますし，英語力は飛躍的にアップする筈です．できるなら原書で，というのが私のお薦めです．

最近天文学に興味を持っており、より深く理解できるように物理学や物理数学を勉強している門外漢です（本職は医分野です）。
そんなこんなで色々物理関係の書籍に手を出しているのですが、直接天文学を語るわけではないテクストで純粋に面白いと思えたのは本書くらいですね。
一般的に物理分野の書籍は教科書的意識で、つまり意識を高めて強制的に読まないと読めないものがほとんどです。大学の講義などで使用する目的では良書はたくさんあるのでしょうが、一般人は気軽に読めません。そんな中、ファインマン先生の本書は軽妙な語り口で物理学の本質を伝えてくれるため、気軽に読み物として読み進めます。翻訳なので多少の硬さはあるものの、これで十分です。

もちろん若干の数学的・物理学的素養と、物理学への大いなる好奇心は必要なので、ご注意あれ。

力学に関する理学書は無数にあるが、その中でもひときわ異彩を放っているのが本書である。天才物理学者であり、また優れた教育者でも名の知れた著者が、カリフォルニア工科大で行った講義テープをもとに書き起こしたものであるが、その独特の語り口でさまざまな視点から語られる物理の世界は、簡素な数学的体系としてではなく、ストーリーを備えた一つの世界観として読者の目の前に展開される。数学的な定義や展開にはあまり気をとられず、あくまでも物理を理解することに重点がおかれているが、それでいてその論理展開は緻密かつ丁寧で、納得がいく。初習者のみならず、既習者にとっても非常に味わい深い本である。
