●赤ちゃん学の画期的一冊と言える．本書には，赤ちゃんの「こころ」を知る，６つの方法が記されている．その方法とは「在宅実験」である．パパが「日曜」に実施できる実験法（模倣実験，記憶実験など）が丁寧に解説されている．実験とは言っても身構えるようなものではない．身近なもので簡単に実施できるものばかりだ．本書を読みながら実験をやれば，これまで以上にわが子のことを理解できるにちがいない．
●子育て論や超早期教育に関するちょっと怪しげな本は数多く存在する．だが，サイエンスに裏打ちされた「赤ちゃん学」の本となると，なかなかお目にかかれないのが実情である（下條信輔「まなざしの誕生」以来といえる）．たしかな情報を知りたい，赤ちゃん学の最新事情を知りたいという方にも，おすすめできる一冊である．
●本書に登場する実験は，おもに０歳児を対象としている．１歳になる前のお子さんをお持ちのパパは，いますぐ本書を手にしたほうがよい．赤ちゃんはすぐに大きくなる．時間はあとわずかだ．パパ1年生よ，急げ！

世の中にはたくさんの「赤ちゃん本」があるのに、このような切り口の本は今までなかったように思います。有名な科学者が実際に行ったおもしろい赤ちゃん実験の数々が、とてもわかりやすく紹介されています。読みながら、身近に赤ちゃんがいて、ここで紹介されている内容を実際に試せる人がうらやましくなりました。科学者である著者が、子育てに関わる父親としての視点を交えながら最新の科学的知見を伝える姿勢にも、とても好感が持てます。赤ちゃんと過ごす時間をより豊かにする良著だと思います。

　0〜2歳のお子さんのいるお父さんのための「赤ちゃん学」入門。と言っても小難しい本ではなくて、簡単な「心理学実験」を行うことを通して、赤ちゃんと向き合う時間を増やそうという本。

　人間に対する実験、ましてや赤ちゃんに対する実験と聞くと不安に思う人が多いようだが、心理学実験の多くは単なる「統制された観察」に過ぎない。例えば、グズる赤ちゃんを縦に揺らすか横に揺らすかで機嫌がなおる確率が異なるかどうかを調べるのだって（立派な、とは言えないが）実験と言えば実験だ。本書では、遊び感覚で行うことのできる6つの実験が紹介されている。実験にかかる所要時間は長いものでも10分ほど。最後の30ページでは、赤ちゃん研究の意義についてまとめてある。

　実験の内容としては、「赤ちゃんは『何もできない無力な存在』ではない」ということを示すものや、「大人にとって当たり前のことが、いったいいつごろできるようになるのか？」を調べるもの。同じ実験を何ヶ月かおきに行って、赤ちゃんの成長を見守るのも楽しいだろう。

　薄い本なので、1時間ほどで読み終わると思う。
