　単純に「物理学」という言葉では分類できない，まるで「ファインマン自然科学」とでもいうべき体系を感じさせる名講義録の邦訳（全５巻）。ファインマン先生曰く，「カルテクのいちばんよくできる学生といえども，全てを完全に理解できるというような程度にはしなかった」という最高レベルの内容でありながらも，机に座って学習するより，寝っころがってリラックスしながら読みたいと感じさせる。それはまさしく先生の奔放な性格が講義の端々に溢れ出ている故かもしれない。邦訳第４巻は「電磁波と物性」だが，後半にはいわゆる「連続体力学」に関する章もあり，扱っている話題の広範さは邦訳第２巻と双璧。邦訳全５巻中で最もマイナーな巻であるとも言えるが，個人的には一番好きな巻。最初から順次読み進めていくのが王道だが，初めから全てを理解するつもりで取り組んではいけないし，そうすべきでもないし，そうできるはずもない。繰り返し読みながら，毎回異なる箇所で「そうか，わかった」を繰り返すべき。このように読者の理解度レベルに応じて，「そうか，わかった」と納得のできる箇所がいくつも準備されているという懐の深さが本講義録の真骨頂。これこそが先生の「私は学生を一人でも完全に置き去りにしようとは思わなかった」という言葉の証左である。

原書第２巻（電磁気）の後半、特に物性理論を中心とするものです。この本だけでなく、前半の日本訳三巻を同時に購入されることを勧めます。
レベルとしては、理工系の一年後半かと思います。
