本書は国際政治経済学の権威スーザン・ストレンジが
1996年に出した先駆的な書である。
この翌年にはアジア通貨危機が勃発し、アジアの諸国家は
グローバルな金融マーケットに揺さぶられることになった。

刺激的なタイトルではあるが、ストレンジが唱えるのは
国家の滅亡ではない。国家は引続き国際政治・経済、
特に軍事的な分野で大きなプレイヤーとして存在し続ける。
しかし唯一の絶対的なパワーではなくなっている、
ということが本書では繰り返し強調されている。

代わって国際官僚機構や国際カルテル、通信、マフィア
保険ビジネス、監査法人などが新しい権威として挙げられている。
国際政治経済と言うと極めてニッチな分野を想像するが
現在の世界情勢を分析するに悪くない分野に感じる。

元の文章も難しいのであろうが、内容も硬く、
読み通すのはなかなか骨が折れるだろう。

それまで国際政治学の分析対象とはされてこなかった多国籍企業の活動を分析し、特定の業種間の企業活動がトランスナショナルに展開、発展し、いつのまにか国際政治学が想定してきた政治空間とは別の空間を形成している点を指摘。かつこの空間は国家内に展開し国家主権の規制を退けていると主張しているが、ただはたしてストレンジの主張の通りに多国籍企業の経済活動が国家の介入を嫌がり、国家の提供するサーヴィスを退けているのかという点で疑問が残る。しかし、非国家主体が重層的で新たな活動空間を形成し、国家との新たな関係を目指そうとしている、換言すれば国家の管理を離れた領域の存在を指摘した点で評価できよう。

　放送大学の授業『政治学入門： 政治の空間』 で取り上げられていたので「補習用」に買ってみたのですが、さすがに放送大学テキストよりも難しいです。
う〜ん、すばらしい本なのでしょうが、理解するにも基礎学力が必要です。本も読む人を選ぶといった感じです。とほほ、、、
この分野の専門の人にはわかりやすい本なのでしょうか？どなたかレビューして教えて下さい。
レベルの高い本という意味で★５つにしました。自分が理解できないから★を下げたら本に申し訳ないので。。。
