人類が絶滅してから実に１００００年ほど経った、とある荒廃した遺跡の中でボワっと青白く浮かび上がる一体の霊魂、エンゼルム・キーファーの作品を無理に書き表すとこんな感じはなかろうか。一点の隙も無い人気（ひとけ）の無さでございます。たまげました。

深夜の古代遺跡でヒッソリ燃え上がる白い炎、荒廃し忘れられ埃まみれになった窓枠の配置という前代未聞の傑作、夕暮れかはたまた朝焼けか浮かび上がる複数の太陽、そこには何か意味があるのでしょうか？それとも、ヒタスラ美だけを追い求めて行き着いた景色なのでしょうか、それは僕にとっては問題ではありません。とにかく美しいのです。

最初にこの本を手に取ったとき、この本の表紙を見て、あまり期待が持てませんでした。この表紙だけ取って見たら、一々問い合わせようとは思わないでしょう。そういう人は、まずキーファーが何たるかをインターネットなり図書館なりで検索してみるといいと思います。決して無駄手間だったとは思わないでしょう。
