A cool quote from Confucius sums up why reading a book like Crazy for Kanji: is important. He said, “Learning without thought is lost labor.” Trying to master Japanese is like stabbing into a vast sea of darkness with a plastic spoon/ fork. Simply put, this book will give you landmarks and laughter that make learning Japanese more enjoyable and meaningful. Eve’s wisdom, humor, and love for the language will help fuel you on your way to your Japanese goals. One really important thing about this book is that it really balances valuable insight for beginners and advanced learners alike. Do yourself a favor. Get a good map before you trek into the vast sea of Japanese.

Whether you have just embarked on your kanji-learning adventure, are approaching the “kanji guru” stage, or--like most foreign adult kanji learners--find yourself somewhere between the start and finish lines, this entertaining, informative book is bound to provide you with new information about Japanese characters.

Drawing on her sharp intellect, sense of humor, and tireless ability to ask all the right questions, freelance writer and self-proclaimed “kanji-holic” Kushner seduces us from Page 1 into joining her on a quest to learn everything there is to know about kanji. Writing in the first person, she tackles the questions most of us have scratched our heads over and details the answers in language we can understand. Drawing on a wide variety of sources, Kushner covers a surprisingly comprehensive amount of background information in 200 pages.
