表紙の写真は、モデルが衣装を着てポーズをとっているのではありません。
針金の骨格を芯に、フェルトで肉付けし、布で表面を仕上げた人形です。

本は、約160ページの内、85ページ分が作品の紹介、30ページで制作過程、
のこりが、作者の作品履歴について述べられています。どのセクションも、
豊富な写真で構成されており、洋書でありますが、写真だけを見ていっても
十分な見応えがあります。

作品の題材は、表紙のような女性の美しさを表したファンタジーものが多い
ですが、筋骨たくましい男性や、深いしわが刻まれた老人と幅広く、
白人だけではなく、ほかの人種の作品もあり、作者の深い知見が伺えます。
そして、解剖学的な知識にもとづいた造形や、細かい皮膚のしわ、浮き出た
血管、布を重ねることによって出る皮膚の質感と、その細やかな仕事は、
実に目を見張るものであります。ぜひ本物を見たいです。

作者の作品世界と表現手法に、世界は広いと驚きを覚えました。
