Book Description

Delta’s Key to the TOEFL Test is a comprehensive TOEFL preparation course. It is the first totally new TOEFL prep course to unlock the mysteries of the computerized TOEFL and the traditional paper–based test. The course design is based on sound instructional theory.

Fifty–four units of study each zero in on a specific skill in listening, language structure, reading, or writing. All units include a focus exercise, many sample test items, discussion of TOEFL “tricks,” several practice exercises, extension activities, and a skill assessment. The new “computer–unique” test items are clearly described with tips.

Students and teachers are given suggestions on various ways to use the text and cassettes.

Practice Tests for the CBT

Students and teachers want more practice for the computer–based test, and that is what Delta’s Key to the TOEFL Test CD–ROM provides. Ten full–length practice tests simulate the experience of taking the real computer–based TOEFL examination. Learners can choose to take each test in its entirety or focus on individual sections in Listening, Structure, Reading, and Writing.

Windows XPでユーザーネームに日本語がはいっている場合、インストール
がうまく行きません。その場合、以下の手順に従うと解決できます。DELTA
のシステム担当者に送ってもらったものです。

Here are the steps of changing settings.

1.Click right mouse button on "My Computer icon".
2.Click "Property" on Context Menu List.
3.Click "Details Setting Tab" on the window, called "Property
ofSystem".

4.Click "Environment Variable" button, above "OK" button: Open
the window called "Environment Variable".
5.Click "Temp" from upper list and Click "Editing" button: Open
the window called "Editing User Variable" .
6.Rename "Variable Value" to "C:＼Temp", and Click "OK" button.
7.Click "Tmp" from upper list and Click "Editing" button: Open
the window called "Editing User Variable".
8.Rename "Variable Value" to "C:＼Temp", and Click "OK" button.
9.Click "OK" button on "Environment Variable" window.
10.Click "OK" button on "Property of System" window.
11.Make a new folder, called "Temp" in C:＼.
12.Install program from CD-ROM

色々なTOEFL対策本をやりましたが、これはすごい。2,500円ほどでCBT仕様の模試10回分を完全に味わえます。文法セクションはやや易しい（私でも満点なんて!?）ですが、リスニングもリーディングもほど良いレベルと感じました。5回目くらいから、少し難易度が上がっているようにも思います。

リスニングでの話題の広さと吹き込みの自然さに、和書の対策本とは異なる魅力を感じました。学生によるたどたどしくも緊張したプレゼンテーション、外部から招いた一般人によるレクチャー、発音がややsloppyな先生の話し方など、人工的なリスニング教材にはない本場の英語を味わうことができます。面白過ぎて３日で10回分、全部、聞いてしまいました。

ペーパーバックとカセットも出ているようですが、10回の模試自身に関してはCD-ROMでスクリプトも答えも完結していて、なくても支障はありませんでした。単語・熟語のポイントも英語の解説付きで、なぜその答えになるのか本文の該当箇所が太字で示されるほどの丁寧さですが、和訳が必要の場合は、ちょっと苦しいかもしれません。

WinXPで問題なくインストールでき、届いたその日からすぐに学習ができました。CD一枚のみ届いた時は、これだけ？？と思いましたが、中身を確認してその内容の充実さとムダの無さに驚きました。TOEFLのテスト形式に対する慣れと、日頃の勉強の成果を確認するだけでなく、勉強としても十分使えるものだと思います。回答説明も英語ということで、この英語の勉強に関しては１００％の英語環境でできるのも魅力です。
