映画『ロード・オブ・ザ・リング』のロケ地を紹介した、ハンディなガイドブックです。2002年に出た初版に第２部、第３部でのロケ地２０箇所以上が追加になっています。映画がニュージーランド全土の風光明媚な場所で撮影されたため、この本もロケ地から見たニュージーランド紹介のような趣があります。小さな本なので写真も小さいですが、それでも自然の素晴らしさは十分わかります。ところどころ映画のスチル写真やキャストのコメント、観光案内のコラムが入っていたり、ロケ地や映画の中の地名に関するちょっとしたトピックも記されていて楽しめます。ただし、ロケ地周辺の地図や緯度・経度は示してありますが、この本だけを頼りにたどり着くのは難しいでしょう。実際に旅行される際には、文中に掲載されたURLなどを頼りに具体的な情報を集めてから出発されることをお勧めします。

私はロケ地を観に行こうと思い、この本にめぐり合いました。本当に良くできています。読んだり写真を眺めているだけでも映画のシーンが思い出されとても幸せな気分になりますが、これを参考にぜひ実際にロケ地をご覧になられることをおすすめします。ただ自力で場所を探し当てるのは結構大変かと思われるので、現地ツアーに入るのもの良いと思います（この本に掲載されていない場所も教えてくれるので）。
私が参加したツアーのガイドも「皆さんこの本は読んでますか？」と確認したくらい、実際参加された方々は全員この本を読んでいらっしゃいました（笑）。ロケ地巡りの必須アイテムです。

~ロード・オブ・ザ・リングのロケ地ガイド本は幾つか出ていますが、これは延長版で版型が正方形でやや大型のオールカラー豪華本です（ペーパーバック）。表紙はミナス・ティリスの全景で飛蔭に乗ったガンダルフの後ろ姿も写っています。中身はロケ地ガイドに加えて映画製作の裏話、なんといっても美しい風景写真が大判で載っているのが特筆物です。単なるガイ~~ドブックというよりは、豪華な写真集とも言えます。実際にNZに行くことができなくても、この本で雰囲気を味わうことができます。~
