That was my impression after trying to read this material as a beginner on PHP and MySQL. It sure has all the information required to get the basics on the language but the didactic organization of the book is just not good. Many concepts and examples are used before having introduced them properly, so you will always find yourself in the situation of having to look for further information two chapters ahead and then go back to your reading to understand the examples. All in all...I kind of regreat having bought it. I'm sorry for not being able to give a better reference.

I found this book to be really just a listing of php functions. Although I am a professional programmer, I am new to php and know little about other web programming. When I brought this text, I was looking for something with lots of tutorials that would take me through all stages of building a professional web site... this book wasn’t it.
It does have good sections on setting up your server, installing php, mysql, etc., but doesn’t go into too much detail on much else.
I would have liked to see the php functions listed, along with a short tutorial/practical example using these functions.
Also, I found quite a few errors in the code examples. This is quite frustrating for the beginner - I have sometimes spent hours debugging code only to realize there was a mistake in the parts I copied from the book.
In short, this book is fine for people who already know a lot about programming, but I wouldn’t recommend it for the absolute beginner.
