T'was the night before Chistmas,・・・・で始まる有名なClement　Mooreの詩に、ソフトなイラストがついた本当に素敵なクリスマスの絵本です。　
セント・ニコラスは子供たちが眠る夜、となかいを呼んでそりを出発させます。　静かな夜空を飛び、一軒の家に着きます。そっと部屋に入り、眠っている子供の寝顔をやさしい眼差しで見つめます。　
サンタへと書かれたテーブルの上のクッキーをつまみ、暖炉にかかった靴下の中にはちきれんばかりのプレゼントを入れ、また夜空に飛びたっていきます。
リズミカルな詩と暖かいイラストで包まれたこの絵本は、最後にシャンシャンシャンと鈴の音が聞こえてきそうな　すてきなすてきな絵本です。
本はハードカバーでしっかりとしていて、大きさもA4サイズより大きく、何より絵の色使いが柔らかくて何ともいえません。

クレメント・モ-アの詩に、タ-シャ・チュ-ダの素敵な絵の、クリスマスにぴったりの大人も子供も楽しめる絵本です。詩なので、リズムが良いし、英文も短いので、読み聞かせも苦労がありません。絵は、見開き１ペ-ジごとにカラ-ペ-ジ、白黒ペ-ジとなっています。はじめ少しがっかりしたのですが、白黒ペ-ジもあじわい深いので、「やはりこれがベストかな。」と思います。

　クリスマスの夜に、サンタさんがトナカイにのってやってきて、子供にプレゼントをおいて帰って行く。そういった内容を素敵な詩と絵で説明したもの。クリスマスにまつわるいろいろな絵本はありますが、正統派の内容と言ってよいのではないでしょうか？3歳になる子供は、わくわくしながら聞いていました。
　個人的にはクリスマスの靴下、トナカイ、ソリと言った単語の勉強になりました。（すみません、低レベルで、、）
