モニカがお月様と一緒に遊びたがったので、パパはお月様を取りに行くことにした。お月様まで昇るのは簡単ではなかったけれど、とうとう成功した。と思ったら、お月様は大きすぎて家に持ち帰れない。子どもたちは、この問題が解決される様子を大いに楽しみながら読み進める。楽しい物語が、ページをめくるたびに、広がったり浮かび上がったりするしかけの「Classic Board Book」版で登場。

   『The Very Hungry Caterpillar（はらぺこあおむし）』でまれにみる成功を収めたエリック・カールが、目のさめるような青、緑、赤を使って、力強いタッチで見事な絵本を描きあげた。モニカは月と遊びたいのだけれど、手が届かない。そこでパパにとってほしいと頼む。この本は、折り返しページをいくつかまじえた独創的なデザインが特長だ。パパが長い長いはしごを持ってくる場面では折り返しが横に開き、高い高い山よりも高くはしごを上る場面では縦に開き、パパが満月に到着すると、1枚の大きな大きなお月さまに開く。でも月はあまりに大きすぎて運べないので、パパは小さくなるまで待ってから、モニカの待つ家に持ち帰る。モニカははねて踊って大はしゃぎだ。けれども月は小さくなり続け、ある日消えてなくなってしまう。でも、ずっとじゃない。細長い銀色の月が空に現れると、日ごとに大きくなってまた満月に戻るのだった。この本は、ひと月の太陰周期の手ほどきとしてすばらしいだけでなく、芸術作品としてもあらゆる読み物をしのいでいる。

同じタイトルで、３タイプくらいありますが、私は＄１９のを買いました。安い方のは実物を見ましたが小さいのです。長ーいはしご、高ーい山、大きーい月が出てくるので、大きい方がお勧めです。仕掛けは迫力満点です。挿し絵も流石、エリックカール。美しいです。そう、「腹ぺこ青虫」の始めに出てくるお月様と、この本のお月様は同じなので、すでに前者を持っている人にもお勧めです。

　パパにお月様と遊びたいから取って来てと娘がねだるところからお話がスタートします。
高いお山にはしごをかけて、はしごを登ってパパがお月様を取りに行きます。
見開きのページにおさまりきらない挿絵は、上に下に横にとページを広げるしかけがたくさんあります。
絵本一杯のお月様も迫力があります。

是非、一番大きなサイズの絵本を買って、ダイナミックな仕掛けを満喫してください。

　娘が２歳の時から大好きな絵本で、今ではしかけの端が破れていますが、何度も繰り返し読んでと持ってくるお気に入りの一冊です。
また、お月様が満ち欠けするものだという自然の原理をさりげな~く教えてくれる絵本でもあります。

３歳の娘は毎日のように空のお月様を見ては、今日は丸くて大きい、今日!は小さくなっているなどと言います。
我が家のパパは、娘にお月様をとってきてと言われて大変です。

読んであげるのに、簡単な単語ばかりだし、文章にリズムがあるので、音読しやすい本だと思います。しかけもあるので、楽しめます。get,up,down,long,high,などなど、見ての通りの表現が多く，２歳の娘にも理解しやすいみたいです。一緒に「ダウン，ダウン」「アップ、アップ。」「パパ，ゲッタムーン。」など言っています。
