多肉植物のみを掲載した写真集。内容のほとんどが美麗カラー写真でその数なんと1200枚(！)に及ぶ。一般種はもちろん国内ではほとんど出回っていないような珍奇種、イモ物まで幅広く掲載している。残念ながら国産の多肉本ではこれだけのクオリティの本はないですねぇ。属名の頭文字アルファベット順に掲載されているので検索も簡単。記述は科名や学名、原産地、花の特徴など簡単な英語なので英語が苦手な方でも写真集感覚ですんなり読める。もちろん和名(園芸名)は載ってませんが、グローバルスタンダードな学名に慣れ親しむ意味でもいかがでしょうか。価格も安いのも相まって洋書の入門書として絶対買いです！！

書誌のタイトルが「ディクショナリ」と言うことで、多肉の育て方（潅水，遮光，適用気温，難易度）のようなものが記載されていると思い購入しましたが「写真集」でした。説明文は、学名とか名付け親とか自生地とか・・・その多肉の簡単な説明のみです。写真集として購入するのであれば、手ごろな価格だし大満足です。私は多肉の初心者ですが、見ている内に更なる情報があれば・・・と思った書誌でした。

「II」とあわせて、多肉植物ファン必携の本。

属名と種名のアルファベット順で、１ページに６つの写真が規則正しく並んでいるレイアウト。それが約２２０ページにも渡っているのですから、いつ本を開いても新しい発見があります。多肉植物というとアロエ位しか思い浮かばなかった人でも、さまざまな姿をした沢山の美しい「不思議な」植物の写真を眺めているだけで、なごんでしまうはず。

記載に関しては、多少古い部分があるが、A~Zで見やすく並んでいるので探すときにみやすい。続本のSUCCULENTSに記載されていない種もあるので２冊併用が良い。
