自分の英語を自然なアメリカ英語のイントネーションにしたい人、Ｔｏｅｆｌのリスニングに苦労している人には、かなりオススメできます。ポイントとしては

１）ゆっくり綺麗な英語のみを聞くより、米語の自然なリズムを覚えさせることに主眼を置く

２）恥ずかしいくらい抑揚をつけたり、なるべくＮａｔｉｖｅに近いスピードで話すほうが、一つ一つの単語の発音を完璧にすることよりも「聞き取ってもらう近道」だと繰り返し指導
３）日本人学生の陥りやすい間違いに対して、豊富な実例があがっていて、親しみやすい内容
４）電話で発音カウンセリングを提供するなど、非常に親身な指導体制

（ただ本を売るだけと思っていない、本当に外人に自然な米語を身につけさせることに対する筆者の気合を感じ!ま!!す）

アメリカの語学学校の内容をそのまま本にしたようなので、「はずかしがっちゃだめ、大げさくらいのほうが通じる」など、外国語を学ぶものの立場にたったアドバイスが随所に見られ、本当に教室で学んでいるかのような臨場感を味わえます。

アメリカのニュース英語は聞き取れるけど、Ｔｈｅ　Ｓｉｍｐｓｏｎｓ（アメリカの人気アニメ）は聞き取れない人、この本を練習してみてください。かならずや「そういうことだったのか！」と理解する日が来るでしょう。

最後に、この本は日本人が不得意な、個々の子音の発音などには力点を置いていません。なので、発音自体に関してはPronounce It Perfectly in English等のほかの教材を併用することをオススメします。

米国に２年留学しており、個人的に大金を払って発音矯正に行きましたがやはりイントネーションなどの点で疑問点がありこちらの本の購入に踏み切りました。
発音の仕方（口、舌の動かし方）から始まると思いましたが、この本はまずイントネーションの基礎から学ぶのですね。大学受験英語などで出る項目なども全て載っているので受験生にもおすすめです。

ESL生徒むけなので、本文はそんなに難しい英語は使われていません。日本、フランス、ドイツ語との比較なども載ってて本格的だと思います。索引含め約200ｐありますが、CDも本文に沿ってあるので難なく学習が進められると思います。
口、舌の形に関しては全く知識の無い方には少々不足に感じられるかもしれません。もう一冊別の本、もしくはウェブサイトをみてみるといいかもしれません。
おすすめは　"phonetics flash animation project"(Googleで検索)
です。American Englishをクリックすると舌の動きが動画でみれます。

大金払って発音矯正学校に行かなくてもこの本で間に合うと思いました。
非常に満足できる一冊です。

(現在では付属の５枚のCDはちゃんと袋に収められています。）

読むのはある程度読めるのに、どうして英語が聞き取れないのか、どうすれば聞き取れるようになるのか、ずっーっと悩んできて今に至ります。まず活字から入って、適当なカタカナ発音を当てはめて読んできたため、実は、書かれているようには発音されていない、状況により音が脱落したり変化したりするのが当たり前という事実を受け入れるだけでも、物凄く苦労しました。そんなことを指摘してくれる人は少なくとも中学、高校、大学の先生にはいませんでした。アメリカに来て悩みが深刻化する中、日本で見かけなかった教材に目がいくようになって見つけたのがこれです。amazon.comでの評価の高さに後押しされて買いましたが、非常に満足しています。母音、子音を網羅的に扱うのみならず、フレーズにおけるイントネーションのルール、変化、脱落、などかなり体系的な説明があります。知らなかったカラクリがたくさんあってまさに目から鱗です。CD5枚で、指示に従って自分でも繰り返し練習する分まで考えると結構な量です。なんで日本の学校の英語の授業でこういう大事なことを教えてくれなかったんだろう、って思います。英語がしゃべれない、聴こえない、と悩む全ての人にお勧めしたい教材です。
