   第3話のすべての騒動は、ハリー・ポッターがダーズリー家にやってきた意地の悪い客、マージおばさんを「間違って」おばけ風船のようにふくらませ、天井まで舞い上がらせてしまったことから始まる。ペチュニアおばさんとバーノンおじさんのお仕置きが怖くて、ハリーは重いトランクとフクロウのヘドウィグのカゴを抱えて暗闇へ飛び出してゆく。

   けっきょく、ハリーは魔法を乱用した罰をまったく受けずにすむばかりか、不思議な力でマグルの住む世界から救い出され、3階建てのどぎつい紫色のバスに拾われて、残りの夏の数週間を居心地のよい居酒屋「漏れ鍋」で過ごすことになるのだ。ホグワーツでの3年目の生活がスタートすると同時に出くわしたことから、なぜ役人たちがハリーの罰を簡単に免除したかが明らかになる。

   アズカバン刑務所を脱獄した囚人、シリウス・ブラックが逃走中で、しかもハリー・ポッターを狙っているらしい。いったいなぜ？ それに、ハリーを守るために雇われたディメンターと呼ばれる看守たちはどうしてハリーだけを震えあがらせるの？ 今度もまたローリングは大人も子どもも楽しませてくれる。次回作の準備も整っているという。うれしいことに、このシリーズはあと4作続くそうだ。 --This text refers to the ハードカバー edition.

　英語の勉強になるかな、ぐらいの気持ちで購入しましたが、すっかり夢中になってしまいました。Stephen Fry氏の朗読が素晴らしいＣＤです。登場人物１人ひとりの声を丁寧に演じ分け、会話の部分は本当に複数の人がしゃべっているような気がしてきます。ハリーの元気な声、ルーピン先生のちょっと掠れた声や、リー・ジョーダンによるクイディッチの解説など、聞いているとストーリーにぐんぐん引き込まれていきました。クライマックスでは各登場人物のセリフに感情が込められ、本を読む時とはまた違った感動が味わえます。
　Fry氏のブリティッシュ・イングリッシュはとても聞きやすく、本を見てなくても話が自然に頭の中に入ってきます。
　３巻を原書で読んで面白かったという人にはぜひ聞いてほしいＣＤです。

ハリーポッターが面白いのは今更という感じで誰もが知っている事ですが、私がこの本をオススメしたいのは装丁の素敵さからです。他にもペーパーバッグで発行されてはいますが、このシリーズが一番本としても綺麗で洒落ています。子供の頃、イラストが綺麗で内容と共に表紙などが心に焼き付いていたお気に入りの本があったと思います。この本は、まさにその一つになりうるのではないでしょうか。発行を待ってでもこちらを選ぶ価値がある！　と思います。
