サイズは小さいが、図版の数はかなりある。19世紀末から20世紀初頭、英米上流階級の人々の肖像。
ちょうどフランスでは印象派が全盛期で、サージェントもその系統に分類されることもあるが、印象派が庶民を描いたのに対し、本書に収録されているのは裕福な人々の肖像なので、優雅でノーブルな雰囲気がある。
印刷は良い。ただ、こんなに小さくしてしまう意図はやはり分からない。

「カーネーション・ユリ・ユリ・バラ」から始まる、ポケットサイズの端正で優雅な一冊です。
小さいながらも、デティールやスケッチも収録。
ベットわきのテーブルに飾ったり、サージェントのお好きな方へのちょっとしたプレゼントにも喜ばれそうです。
